The infinitive (nafnháttur) is the most basic form of a verb. Words on this form usually end in the letter “a”:
- to hear – að heyra
- to see – að sjá
- to bake – að baka
- to have – að hafa
- to be – að vera
- to go – að fara
The little word “að” means the exact same thing as the English word “to”, it is an additional word that shows that this is the basic form of the verb.
